Admissions Process

The Institutional Relations team works very closely with the Admissions Office at SFS Headquarters in Beverly, MA. We communicate with the Admissions Counselors regarding inquiries, parent questions, applicants, current students in the field, and returning students. During the fall, we occasionally send our Admissions team members to fairs so that they too can meet with prospective students.

SFS welcomes a diverse student body, and students come to us with a broad spectrum of backgrounds and experiences. In keeping with our interdisciplinary approach to environmental problem solving, we strive to build teams that represent a cross-section of the global student body, including liberal arts, science, and economics majors.

When to Apply

SFS reviews applications on a rolling basis, beginning approximately one year before the session begins. While there is no admissions deadline for semester programs, we encourage students to apply early to ensure admission to their program of choice. Please remind semester students about your school-specific deadlines. Decisions are generally available within two to four weeks of the date when their application is completed and received. Review cannot begin until all application materials have been received.

Before Your Students Apply

The SFS program will likely be very different from a traditional academic experience and traditional study abroad program. Before your students apply, be sure to encourage them to read the program components and relevant information. Please review and follow the Applicant Procedures below. We recommend that they save a link to (or print) this page for future reference. Please contact the SFS Admissions Office if you have any questions. Call 800.989.4418 or email

Applicant Procedures

Please review prerequisites and application steps in the Admissions section

Although we have rolling admissions, please remind students of your school’s deadlines.

Once an application is received by SFS, an Admissions Counselor will contact the applicant confirming receipt of the application. If the application is incomplete, the counselor will indicate which materials are needed. Students are strongly encouraged to submit SFS Financial Aid Applications along with their program application if they would like to be considered for aid. SFS only reviews complete applications. Once complete, review takes two to four weeks. Students will also be sent information on completing the Post-Acceptance Forms and Medical Approval Process after acceptance.
