STAFF PROFILE
During her undergraduate studies at the University of Vermont, Breezy studied Recreation Resources and Management and Spanish. She studied abroad in Buenos Aires, Argentina where she traveled extensively in Patagonia, Bariloche and Northern Argentina. Breezy also spent a summer teaching English and working at an animal refuge in Silencio, Costa Rica. These experiences contributed to Breezy’s love of learning Spanish, responsible travel and connecting with local communities. It also opened her eyes to the increasing amount of tourism and how it is effecting the environment and the local people.
Throughout college, Breezy guided canoeing, backpacking, snowshoeing and hiking trips for the UVM Outing Club. After college, she moved to Washington to guide kayak trips for High School Students in the beautiful San Juan Islands at Camp Orkila Seattle YMCA. She spent the summer kayaking around the gorgeous islands accompanied by pods of Orca whales, seals, madrona trees and incredible sunsets.
After exploring the islands, Breezy headed to Jackson Hole, Wyoming to serve for a year as an AmeriCorps VISTA at the Teton Literacy Center. After AmeriCorps, she continued working at Teton Literacy for two years as a teacher and Adult Program Coordinator. Her responsibilities included teaching English as a Second Language and beginning and intermediate Spanish classes to Adults. This job allowed Breezy to work with an incredibly diverse group of people and also gave her valuable teaching experience.
When she is not teaching, you can usually find her adventuring outside. In the winter, Breezy loves backcountry snowboarding at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort or Teton Pass. Her summers are spent mountain biking and backpacking all over Wyoming, Montana and Utah. She loves the Boston Celtics, her mountain bike, coffee, running and reading. Breezy is excited to return to Costa Rica where she can share her passion for sustainable development, making meaningful connections with local community members and experiential education with the students.
