An SFS Donor Profile

SFS is nurturing future environmental leaders through an innovative and tested educational model – what we do works.

SFS discovers, develops and implements sustainable solutions to environmental and development challenges, in cooperation with resource-dependent communities – we collaborate.

SFS addresses critical environmental problems that require a long-term commitment and sustained investment in local communities – we are here to stay.

SFS generates important research that contributes to the worldwide effort to combat environmental degradation – we think globally, act locally.

Donate every year. Make a difference every day.

Over the past quarter century, The School for Field Studies (SFS) has transformed an entire generation of students into environmentally engaged members of society. We have provided over 13,000 students with a transformational educational experience in field-based science. SFS students work under challenging circumstances, side-by-side with skilled SFS researchers and local community members. SFS pioneered international education programming that combines immersion in environmental studies with an examination of the critical role science can play in furthering sustainable development.  Our full-time, international faculty, the majority of whom possess the highest academic degree in their field, engage in high-caliber, applied scientific research that is routinely published in peer-reviewed journals. They work and live in five permanent SFS Centers purposely located in environmentally sensitive regions throughout the world.

The SFS interdisciplinary educational model and long-term research objectives reinforce a determination to develop effective community-based strategies for sustaining local environments and livelihoods. Not only does our work directly benefit diverse ecosystems like coral reefs, tropical rainforests, and African savannahs, it also responds to the needs and priorities of the local residents.

SFS has established an enviable record of success with our students, with international academic colleagues, and with local community partners. Our aspirations are unique. Our achievements are considerable. SFS enters its second quarter-century poised to introduce another generation to the rigors of environmental stewardship. We welcome your support.
