"This expedition spanned such an enormous variety of situations that occur in field research that it supplied a truly realistic view of such work. Probably the most unique and rewarding aspect of the course was the opportunity for growth on an individual level, each student having the chance to absorb the expedition in their own way."

Tim Yarrington
Ecology of Exotic Species, Mount Saint Helens, Summer 1984

"Now that I have returned to my home, to Iowa, I find that it is only now that I realize what the summer of 1993 really meant to me. For many Iowans, this time will be remembered for the disastrous floods, but I was able to escape, if only for a short period of time. I have found that I now harbor memories not only of the powerful floodwater, but of a new life, new friends, and a new perspective. The course I took through The School for Field Studies, to Pagosa Springs, Colorado, this past summer taught me a special lesson: I learned how to cope with life in a new way."
Mary Catherine
Landscape Ecology, Summer 1993

“The fact that the faculty lived with us allowed spontaneous questions to be answered. That really added to my learning because I wouldn’t just “give up” if I was stuck, and I felt comfortable enough to ask lots of questions.”

Darren Aronofsky
Wildlife Management, Kenya, Summer 1985Population Dynamics of Harbor Seals, Alaska, Summer 1986
Director of “Pi,” “Requiem for a Dream” and “The Fountain”
