This scholarship has been established by the family of Heather Jo Leibowitz, a Spring 2004 participant at The School for Field Studies Center for Wildlife Management Studies in Kenya. The following is an excerpt from Heather's scholarship report written shortly after completion of her SFS program:

Presenting our findings to group ranch officials and local community members was the single most rewarding experience of my time at CWMS. Knowing that we were presenting information that could potentially have a real, positive, effect on the lives of ordinary Kenyans as well as help preserve vital natural resources for humans and wildlife alike was incredible... there is no other word to describe it. It was wonderful to feel like all of us were making a positive difference, albeit a small one, in the area. I was so excited when I heard that, due to the Wildlife Management Directed Research presentation, group ranch officials were putting plans in motion to create a wildlife sanctuary in Kuku group ranch. There could have been no better proof that our projects were worthwhile.

The Heather Jo Leibowitz Memorial Scholarship will be awarded by The School for Field Studies (SFS) to financially deserving students attending The School for Field Studies Center for Wildlife Management Studies in Kenya. Preference will be given to students who, like Heather, have a commitment to making a difference in the lives of resource dependent communities in Kenya.

Donors will receive an acknowledgement from The School for Field Studies which will also provide a periodic list of donor's names to Heather's family. All contributions to the Heather Jo Leibowitz Memorial Scholarship are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law and are applied entirely to the designated scholarship.
