| April 25, 2008 Dear students and advisors, With the stabilization of the Kenyan political situation, the summer 2008 Wildlife Management Program will be moving back to southeastern Kenya in the foothills of Mt. Kilimanjaro, near Kimana town. Please be aware that this very remote area has remained peaceful throughout the upheaval that occurred in other regions in Kenya. As an added precaution, we will not be using our base camp by Nairobi National Park, since that site is close to the capital. To accommodate these changes, we will only be offering the Summer II session: July 14 - August 12.
While SFS successfully relocated our spring 2008 semester program to a site in Tanzania, now that the Kenyan government is firmly committed to the peace process and the unrest has subsided, we are eager to resume the important work that we've committed to doing in Kenya, particularly focusing on the new Kimana Water Conservation Project started in February this year. We will continue to watch the unfolding events carefully, as the safety of our students and staff is our number one priority. If you have further questions regarding safety, please feel free to contact our safety director, Bill Frederick, at bfrederick@fieldstudies.org. Again, thanks very much for your patience.
