SFS Mexico Faculty Receive Award at Turtle Monitoring Conference  - February 2004

SFS faculty Marc Taylor, Salvador Garcia, and community member, Julio Solis, were pleased to accept an award at a recent conference on turtle monitoring in Cabo San Lucas in Baja California Sur, Mexico. The presentations given by Julio and Salvador were extolled with the highest award given at the conference. SFS Center for Coastal Studies staff were so pleased as it exemplifies the work we have accomplished in partnership with the local community and our commitment to increasing local participation and knowledge towards the conservation of turtles.

SFS Research in Bahía Magdalena, Mexico

The Center for Coastal Studies is exploring ways to conserve the ecological health of Bahía Magdalena and improve the management of its exploited marine resources to sustain the socio-economic stability of the local community. Our research monitors marine resources, water quality and the protection and conservation of the gray whale and the highly threatened green sea turtle. Our goal is to provide sound stock management and species conservation advice to governmental regulators and the local community.
