Annemarie, originally from Austria, has always been passionate about the sea. She managed to turn her passion into her profession when she became a marine biologist. Her research is focused on fish, and she is especially interested in gobies. In 2008, she graduated with a PhD in Zoology from the University of Salzburg, Austria, where she studied the reproduction and ecology of gobiid fishes in the Caribbean. At the same time she was working at the Curacao Sea Aquarium in Curacao, Netherland Antilles, as an educator. Before going to Curacao, Annemarie worked in the Galápagos Islands, Ecuador, collecting data for the Charles Darwin Research Station, contributing to various marine biological projects such as monitoring green sea turtles during their nesting season, and compiling fish and invertebrate censuses. For her Master's degree in Zoology, she studied the feeding ecology of the Yellowfin Mojarra in the Bahamas and the Florida Keys, while assisting with lemon shark research. Earlier in her career, she also studied marine ecosystems in the Mediterranean and the Red Sea, and spent two semesters studying in Marseille, France. Annemarie likes working in a field setting and utilizing 'hands on' teaching methods, such as the ones students experience at SFS. Previous Page Back to Turks & Caicos Field Staff Next Page | |
