Fountain Scholarship

Darren Aronofsky

Film Director Darren Aronofsky, dual alum of The School for Field Studies (Kenya ’85 and Alaska ’86), started The Fountain Scholarship with the monetary award he won for the film, The Fountain. An award-winning director, Darren’s most recent film, Black Swan, won Natalie Portman the Academy Award for Best Actress and received four other nominations, including one for Best Picture. Darren both wrote and directed The Fountain which one reviewer suggested “may well restore your faith in the idea that a movie can take you out of the mundane and into a place of wonderment.”

In appreciation for his time with SFS in places of wonderment, Darren established this endowed scholarship for the benefit of students who have grown up in urban environments, demonstrate financial need and have a commitment and concern for environmental issues.
